UCMP in partnership with Solid Rock life and Business and Seaowl (OGAS) were awarded a grant of over UShs 800 million from the Skills Development Facility under Private Sector foundation in partnership with World Bank. The recognition of the prior learning project was in order to assess and certify 100 workers from UCMP members and 20 workers from the informal sector according to the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) international standards.
Trainees were internationally certified in HSE (health, safety, and the environment). The training started in November 2019, and was concluded in March 2021.
By the time of the closure, 112 candidates had been assessed in the trades of: Electrical (17), Pipefitting (39), Welding (39) and Scaffolding (17).
Students were trained at both the Solid Rock facility in Kampala and SeaOwl (OGAS) facility at Butema, Hoima. The Project female participation was 14%.
ECITB theory training was completed.
• ECITB practical training was completed. Students followed the ECITB programme for the different trades (Pipefitting, Electrical, Welding and Scaffolding.
• 112 trainees completed Health and Safety Training and have been awarded ECITB International Health and Safety Passport (IHSP Foundation) certificates.
Welding and Pipefitting training was carried out at the Solid Rock Life and Business training facility in Kampala.
Electrical and Scaffolding training was carried out at the SeaOwl training facility at Butema, Hoima.
• SeaOwl further provided Career Guidance and Counselling to the candidates.
ECITB tests have been scheduled and completed. Candidates have been internationally certified in the following:
- Pipefitting: -ECITB ICE Level 2.
- Welding: -ECITB ICE Level 2.
- Scaffolding: -ECITB ICE Level 1.
- Electrical: -ECITB ICE Level 2.
- ECITB IHSP- Foundation.
